Last month saw the official opening of the long-awaited Household Waste & Recycling Centre to serve the residents of the Truro area. Situated at Tregurra Parc – just beyond Waitrose off the A390 towards Tresillian – a wide range of materials are now accepted at the new Centre for recycling or disposal.

This development is greatly welcomed by Transition Truro. Expensive journeys, in terms of fuel and carbon emissions, to HWRCs at Longdowns and St.Day are now a thing of the past, with local residents now able to easily recycle much more of their household waste – especially items that cannot be collected from the kerbside.
For the full list just click on the Cornwall Council website and go to Truro Household Waste & Recycling Centre, where you can also find details of those materials which attract charges: https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/environment-and-planning/recycling-rubbish-and-waste/household-waste-and-recycling-centres/
The site operates on a split level basis with bring banks, for example, taking plastic bottles, glass, waste paper, drinks cartons, batteries etc. on the lower level – just beyond the entrance – and further on at the higher level, more bulky items can be deposited, including fridges/washing machines, wood, metal, green garden waste and small electrical items.
Note : The Tools Shed Project, which takes unwanted and broken garden tools for refurbishment at Dartmoor Prison, does not yet have a collection point here. These can still be taken to Centres at Longdowns and St.Day. Please continue to support this excellent project if and when you can.
