Following on from the “Turning Off the Plastic Tap” article posted in March, additional research by a Transition Truro supporter has revealed that we are facing a global Plastic Pollution crisis which needs to be addressed urgently.
This crisis has now been recognised by the United Nations, who have committed to developing an international treaty on plastic pollution by 2024. Action is also being undertaken in varying degrees by governments, NGOs, and campaigning groups – many of whom in the UK and elsewhere stress that much more needs to be done to protect our fragile ecosystems – both on land and at sea.
