Transition Truro will be showing a new documentary film that proposes that localised economies can heal the earth and restore our well-being. There has never been a better or, indeed, more crucial time, to stand back and ask what is going on and realise that things simply cannot carry on like this. The environmental, social and economic crises that we face are intimately connected and at their heart is globalisation, loved by politicians and conventional economists, and still hailed as the only solution to the global crisis.

The film draws on the knowledge of Helena Norberg-Hodge, who spends part of every year in Ladakh in India, where people have managed to retain their relationships with one another and the living world, despite being part of one of the fastest growing economies in the world. This relationship confers joy and meaning into their lives, despite the fact that they are an economically poor region of India. There are also contributions from Vandana Shiva, Andrew Simms and Richard Heinberg.
