A car club for Cornwall?

We need your support to see a car club up and running in Cornwall. Attend one of next week’s consultation events!

The Council are currently looking at how a car club would work locally and in particular what the demand is amongst local residents and businesses.  They are looking at 3 locations – Truro, Falmouth and Wadebridge, and their plan could see a car club up and running from next Spring.

This is great news for Transition Truro as we have on several occasions highlighted to the council our keenness to get a car club up and running in the town.  The national organisation, Carplus, is holding a series of consultation events next week in the 3 proposed locations.  In Truro on Wednesday 3rd October there will be a public meeting for local residents at 7pm in the Council Chamber, at the Council’s one stop shop at Carrick House, Pydar Street, and a briefing for local businesses at 3.30pm in the One Eyed Cat restaurant in Kenwyn Street.

Whether a car club is set up will to a large degree depend on the level of local support. We need as many interested people as possible to attend the consultation events.  If you are interested and think you could benefit from a car club come along to find out more.  Please spread the word amongst your friends, colleagues or local businesses. If you are interested but can’t attend you can fill in a questionnaire on the Council’s website.

This is a really exciting opportunity for Truro and one which, if implemented, will help local people and businesses make more sustainable transport choices.  Car clubs offer ‘pay as you go’ driving. You don’t have any of the hassle of owning and maintaining a car and only pay for the time you are actually using it. For further information on the Council’s plan go to:
