Bosvigo schoolchildren planted the first 12 apple trees at the “Field of Apples” above Sunny Corner today.
The lease of this patch of old orchard to Transition Truro is almost complete and winter planting is now underway.
24 local varieties of apple trees will be planted by Bosvigo to supplement the 15 gnarled veterans dating from the 1920’s. Pendragon, Cornish Aromatic, Pig’s Snout, Breadfruit, Oaken Pin and Hocking’s Green – poetic names never found in the shops, will flourish among the wildflowers.
Further planting will include damsons, plums and additional apple varieties.
