Though the waiting list is long, green shoots are growing.
Transition Truro is a key partner in the success story of the Barrack Lane Allotment Group which has just won Third Prize on the site.
Twenty-five Truro residents from the (very long!) waiting list for allotments have been working with T.T. on two previously derelict plots which are now yielding bumper crops of beans, cabbages and courgettes.
At a recent public consultation on allotment provision in Truro, the Chair of the Parks Committee acknowledged the role of T.T. in pressing for further allotments and the Town Clerk vowed to push for elimination of the waiting list by 2010 – watch this space!
Small in themselves, steps like this help to build the community resilience which will be needed to survive Peak Oil.
